Chamar um sistema de sustentável não é suficiente. Uma comparação rigorosa considera o ciclo de vida completo: construção, energia operacional, manutenção, materiais, uso do terreno e fim de vida, sempre comparando a mesma capacidade de transporte.
Energia e o mix de eletricidade
Consumption depends on mass, frequency, acceleration, residual pressure, gradient and vehicle occupancy. The environmental result also changes with the electricity mix and should be reported per passenger-kilometre or tonne-kilometre.
Construção e terreno
An elevated guideway can reduce some crossings but requires foundations, steel, concrete, stations and access roads. Assessment should include construction, biodiversity, material use and the possibility of reusing the corridor.
Indicadores a publicar
Every study should disclose assumptions, system boundaries, reference year and sources. Without that information, an emissions figure cannot be compared.
